The local hydro utility companies implemented a new program, and you can get a $400 rebate from it!
If you upgrade your existing single speed pool pump to an approved variable speed pump, the utility will issue a $400 instant rebate at the time of purchase.
Wow!
And on top of that, by upgrading to a variable speed pump, you save on your hydro bill because the new pump uses less energy.
Out with the old, in with the new
Most pools use single speed pumps. ½ hp pumps were standard at one point, until pool companies started installing 1 hp and 1.5 hp pumps on pools.
The only problem is these single-speed pumps run at the maximum for 24/7.
A lot of families put their single-speed pumps on a timer, but it still has to run for at least 16 hours a day to turn that water over a couple of times.
That’s important to ensure your water is clean and safe.
Then two-speed pumps were introduced, more efficient than the single speed but not as good as a modern variable speed pump.
How much can you save with a variable speed pool pump?
Using a variable speed pump, you could save 1762kWh annually – or about $296 in energy costs every year.
Over ten years that’s $2960*.
Toronto Hydro, Oakville Hydro, Milton Hydro, Burlington Hydro, and Halton Hills Hydro implemented a program called POOLSAVER in 2017.
If you purchase a new variable speed pump you are eligible for a $400 instant rebate, issued to you by the pool dealer at time of purchase.
The program was so successful, it was extended into 2018.
The only requirements are:
- You replace a single-speed inground pool pump.
- You are a customer of one of the participating hydro companies.
- The pump must be installed by a pool professional.
